Langsua Tramp
Langsua Tramp
Tramping using backcountry huts in the Langsua Area
Saturday, 28June, 2014 - Monday, 30June, 2014
Going tramping in this area was really a last minute decision trying to avoid the thunderstorms and heavy rain forecast for our original target area.
We drove from Oslo via Lillehammer to the Liomseter DNT serviced hut at the end of a nice gravel road, thanks to northern summer it was not still dusk when we arrived ;-)
Next day we started out in northwesterly direction along the the broad back of the Nonstjønnengene.
Rain clouds appear on the horizon be we remain physically unaffected and enjoy the dramatic scenery
Rainbow patch in a most peculiar constellation leading to a dispersion almost horizontal to the ground
We spent the night in Storkvelvbu, a nice and cosy hut with a wood burner that was appreciated as the wind was fairly cold.
On day two we set as a goal to reach Haldorbu hut by crossing the Nordre and Søre Langsua mountains. For this we followed the path to Skriurusten hut for a bit, then started cross-country up the gentle slope.
Views from the NE mountainside of Nordre Langsua
Ascending along a wee cliff top
Ominous clouds and showers that never reach us
Feeling stout and happy in the face of a storm on the horizon

The next night was spent in the small and very cosy hut called Haldorbu where a fence kept out any intruding sheep and we enjoyed another 3 course dinner after an long day in the hills.
This day’s figures were:
Time: 9h 33’ incl breaks
Ascent: 727m
Descent: 930m
The last day brought us back to Liomseter via Fossbeckbua and for the first time we had to don the rain gear due to some showers passing through!
Quick stop to cook some soup on the way back to Oslo, only to seek shelter some minutes later as the rainbow vanished and was replaced by a heavy downpour!
Takk for turen, everyone!
With a tree line at about 1000m asl the landscape assumes an alpine character in most of the Langsua area
